Cynthia Djongoue, Project Manager, BP Group
PWC Involvement: Treasurer, Membership Committee
Where are you from? or Where is home to you?
I was born and raised in Yaoundé, Cameroon in Central Africa. After doing my bachelor’s degree in Lyon, France, I came to NYC for my master’s in mechanical engineering and I’ve been working here for 8 years. I can feel at home in each of those places because they have all shaped the person that I am today. I believe Home is where memories are created.
What is your business? or How are you affiliated with the AEC industry?
I am a project manager at BP Mechanical Corp., which is the Construction division of The BP Group. We provide building services in commercial HVAC.
What do you most want people to know about you or your business?
I really like the mechanical construction field because you can interact and learn from all different trades. It is a great field to acquire a general knowledge of the construction industry. You must be a team player. As a project manager I particularly enjoy planning the projects from beginning to end while coordinating with several trades to provide the best results. It is very gratifying to observe the sense of pride and accomplishment that the team feels when the work is done well and appreciated by the client.
What is your favorite pastime?
My favorite pastime depends on the seasons. I like doing outdoor activities anytime I can when the weather is beautiful (hiking, bike riding, running) but when it is cold outside, I am more of a homebody and like to relax indoors (do some home yoga and watch a movie).
Reason for joining PWC?
During my first few years in the industry, I felt that my male coworkers may not fully understand my experience as a female in the construction field. Instead of continuing to feel frustrated and misunderstood, I decided to seek out other women with whom I could share my experiences and possibly learn from theirs. That is how I found PWC during my online research and since I joined it has been an amazing experience.
